Nomura was a dependable supporting actor at Toho during the Golden Age of sci-fi. He is best known for his rare leading role as Uozaki Kenji in Varan the Unbelievable (1958), playing a biologist who discovers the titular monster. The film was originally planned as a TV co-production with the US, which led to the casting of lesser-known actors like Nomura in lead roles.
Outside of Varan, Nomura settled into a career of playing reporters, scientists, and military personnel. Reviewers praised his lively performance as a reporter in The Human Vapor (1960). He also appeared as a geologist in Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster (1964) and had roles in Mothra vs. Godzilla (1964) and Frankenstein Conquers the World (1965).
